Top Attractions in Crete for the Family

With its great climate and short travel time from the UK, Crete has long been a family favorite. If you’re looking for more than just a sandy beach, this is the perfect holiday for you. There are plenty of other activities and attractions to keep all the family entertained.

Making a Splash Landing
All children enjoy water parks and Crete has two fantastic water attractions. Limnoupolis Water Park has a great range of rides, slides and wave pools to cater for all adventurers. However, if you prefer something a bit more relaxing, you can chill out in the Lazy River or jacuzzi. The Lido Water Park has some thrilling slides, including the Gigantic wave pool, Kamikaze and the Black Hole.

An Island of Natural Beauty
However you arrive on Crete, whether by plane or cheap cruises, it offers families plenty of opportunities to appreciate its stunning natural beauty. The Samaria Gorge is well worth a trip. The dramatic gorge is part of a national park and is 10 miles in length. On a walk through the area you can take in the many varieties of wild flowers or make friends with the local mountain goats.

The Lassithi Plateau is a fertile plain in the Diktian Mountains in the east of the island. The plain covers around 25,000 square kilometres and at 800m high, it is the highest inhabited plateau in Greece. You’ll be amazed by the hundreds of white windmills that stretch across the plain. In the past they were used to irrigate the land, but they are now just reminders of the past.

Just above the Lassithi Plateau is the village of Psychro. Here you’ll find the Diktian Cave, which is reputed to be the birthplace of Zeus. The cave stands at 1,025m high, so there is a steep path to the entrance. However, once you’re inside, you’ll be amazed by the underground pool and the many stalactites and stalagmites that fill the chambers.

Explore the Island
If you want to introduce your children to events of the past, they’ll really enjoy the island of Spinalonga. The island off the east coast of Crete is easily reached by boat from either Elounda or Agios Nikolaos. It was used as a leper colony until the mid-1950s and has remained uninhabited since they left. You can now wander through the deserted streets and imagine what it would have been like to be sent there.

The town of Agios Nikolaos is well worth a visit whilst you’re in the area. The beautiful town is set around a lake and you can sit and enjoy a drink or meal at the many lakeside tavernas and cafes, whilst you watch the fishermen bring in their colourful boats. With more than 200 boats and yachts in the marina at any one time, the children will enjoy having a stroll round and there’s also a sandy beach to explore.

If you’re looking for a European island holiday with plenty of places to visit and explore, then Crete is for you. You can spend a day relaxing on a sandy beach and then jump in your car to take in something new. With so many things to see, your family won’t want to come home.

My 2012 Birthday Travel Celebration

I didn’t expect I could travel on my 2012 birthday celebration. As I have mentioned in my previous post, it is very difficult for me to steal even an hour off from my chosen career. However, even how puzzling it is to think of, everything is still possible and really happened on my birthday.

I woke up this morning as early as 3:30 AM to pack up my things; just those personal handy stuff for a day-long birthday escape with friends. We immediately rushed to the NAIA terminal 3 for our early flight to Palawan. Yes! You heard it, our destination was in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Not too long after 6:00 in the morning, we were welcomed by a morning by-the-seashore breakfast with a mountainous white rice towered with a big white lit candle. The view was really breath-taking, the morning dew and the rising sun were really exhilarating.

After that sumptuous breakfast we had, since it was just a quick escape, we didn’t waste any minute so we hurriedly take off for an Underground River Cruise. It took us more than 4 hours to experience and enjoy being inside a big cave and bodies of water which I could only see on images in books and on the internet before. But the feeling of getting there and being there is enormous and expounding.

Our flight back here in my place was at 6:00 in the afternoon. While we were heading to the Palawan Airport, we passed by at several shopping stalls to have us “pasalubong” for our friends waiting for the exciting and adventurous experiences we could share. We bought stuff that could only be bought in Palawan as well as food delicacies from the place but just enough for our “pasalubong” budget. While sporting for Palawan souvenir shirts for myself, M called, greeted and woke me up from my deepest sleep. Just then I realized, I was totally in my most-relaxing sleep and those were just my dreams. He called me at 3:30 AM to wake me up and reminded me that I need to study for an exam at 8:00 AM.

Whew! But at least, even in my dreams, I was able to travel for my 2012 birthday celebration. 🙂

Best Places To Spend A Birthday

Many said, it is best to travel places to spend a birthday celebration. For those who has extra travel budget, it might be the best idea for a birthday but for those who has a very tight budget, like me, traveling on my birthday is not yet a priority but a wishlist still today.

My birthday is coming. Counting to it, it’s just days lesser than the number of your either right or left fingers in your hand. A lot of my friends has been inviting me and planning to have the coming bash to spend here and there, but because of my schedule as well and the fact that I really gotten broke, I couldn’t say a “yes” for them yet. And they knew that fact, of course.

But as a young lass like me, I still can’t deny that I am really itching to go travel and visit places on my birthday. Some of the best places for me ideal to spend birthday are:

  1. Ilocos Norte – Any places and spots in Ilocos Norte, is for me relaxing treat on my birthday. I have never been there, so I guess, it’s more memorable to spend my first tour in Ilocos Norte on my birthday. Isn’t it?
  2. Puerto Princesa, Palawan – I’ve been longing to explore myself one of the seven (7) wonders of the world which is also the Philippine pride, the Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. And as mentioned earlier, “first times” are always the most memorable much even more when it happened on my birthday.
  3. Boracay Island – Sounding a cliche, but pardon me, I am just one of those who hasn’t stepped on the sands of Boracay Island who really wished to not just step on it, but feel and experience the so-called “Boracay Fever” on my birthday. Cool idea, isn’t it?

The above mentioned best places to spend a birthday are yet and sure to be just a wishlist for me as of now. I don’t know when these be visited, tomorrow, the next month, the next year or so. But what I am certain is that, I am very thankful for the Lord for giving me opportunities, blessings and guidance and good health, not to mention, for the past travels I had and the more travels to come that are especially free.

Travel Blog Free Templates and Themes

I do not know if themes affect the Page Rank of a certain blog. But for sure, SEO does, and since there are travel blog free templates and themes which are SEO-optimized already, I could somehow say that perhaps blog templates and themes do affect ones Page Rank.

This is the third travel blog template that I’ve installed on this blog. And hopefully, this will be the last as well. However, for the past Google Page Rank updates, this blog experienced negative affectation –  its Page Rank dropped from “2” to “1”. For some, it’s just a one-level drop though, but for me, it’s something to worry of. I am afraid it might totally drop to “0” then.

At this moment in time, I want to create free templates again for this and to my to my other blogs. I want to use other template base themes other than this that is basically SEO-friendly. The base theme of this blog, accordingly, is already SEO-optimized, but maybe I just don’t know how to use it.
