Hatta

Hatta

Hatta is one of the popular destinations of tourists arriving in the Arab Emirates. This place is known for its mild climate, unique landscape, amazing scenery and ancient buildings. If you want to learn more about the history of the Emirates and admire the scenic road, lush oases and sandy dunes – be sure to come to Hatta.

Location

Hatta Mountain Resort in the UAE is located at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula, about 115km from Dubai, close to the border with Oman. Relative to sea level the resort sits at an altitude of 300m at the base of Al Hajar Peak in the heart of the Hajar Mountains.

History of the resort

Hatta is the oldest Bedouin settlement. History attests that people lived here more than 200 years ago. Since then, some structures have survived, including the watchtowers of the 18th century, the Juma Mosque built in 1780, and an ancient fort, which together with the towers has become part of the Ethnographic Museum. The village now has only 3 dozen houses, recreating the appearance of the national Arab village of 300 years ago. In Hatta you can have a very diverse rest. Moreover, there are excellent facilities and accommodation, so every year the tourist attraction of the town is increasing. The colorful mountains and wadis, the drying rivers, are the first things one wishes to see.

The climate and nature of Hatta

The town has a fairly mild climate, and a little cooler than the coast. In addition, there is a much lower humidity. Nature in this area is very diverse and picturesque. Many indigenous people like to come to the resort for a refreshing dip in the cool waters of mountain rivers and lakes, to admire the reed beds and breathe the clean air.

Mountain lake

The amazing combination of mountains, rivers, lakes and forests is one of the characteristic features of Hatta. The Stone Mountains of black basalt are also worth mentioning. They are about 200 million years old. They are of volcanic origin and many thousands of years ago was the bottom of the ocean, and today, similar to these mountains of geological formations without vegetation is not anywhere in the world.

In Hatta is also no less famous Color Mountain, which got its name because of the underlying rocks of different colors, which especially in the evening and at sunset make an unusual impression.

But perhaps many tourists come to Hatta primarily to admire the wadis, formed by descending from the mountains of rain streams, partly drying up on the way.

Holidays in Hatta

The resort has a large number of available entertainment, so the holiday here will be of interest to a variety of categories of tourists. Consider the most interesting options for leisure:

  1. A trip to a wadi. For fans of extreme sports is great wadi bashing, which is a ride on off-road vehicles through the wadi. From Hatta to the wadi starts two routes. One is short and safe (only 20 km), and the other is much harder and longer (100 km). The first route takes you to Hatta Rock Lakes with its cool water and waterfalls and Wadi Khamis. The second option is only for organized groups of tourists with experienced drivers. Be careful, during the rainy season (from November to December and in February) these trips are very dangerous.
  2. Walking in the mountains. Includes visits to lakes and canyons.
  3. Hike to the carpet market.
  4. Playing golf.
  5. Visiting hot springs and swimming in the pool. The thermal springs in Hatta are some of the best in the UAE.
  6. Take part in competitions or national festivals which are held here on December 2nd (UAE National Day) and in January (Dubai Shopping Festival). At the festivals you will witness the folk entertainments and dances and get to know the tradition of weddings in the villages.

  • The Juma Mosque, built in 1780, the oldest in the entire Arabian Peninsula;
  • A fort that used to defend the city, which now houses a military museum;
  • the watchtowers – their task was to guard the springs from the heights of the mountains;

On the way from Dubai to Hatta you will have the opportunity to see a carpet market. It sells inexpensive synthetic carpets made in Iran, as well as a variety of ceramic products (dishes, pitchers, candlesticks, incense holders). The market is open 24 hours a day.

Hatta Rock Lakes is a UAE attraction located in the exclave of Hatta. Of interest to foreign tourists, locals and scientists.

The Hatta Rock Lakes are the main attractions of the city, as well as the relatively cool, dry climate and mountainous scenery. The Hatta Exclave is located high in the Hajar Mountains, 134 km east of Dubai and borders Oman in the southeast and the emirates of Ajman in the west and Ras Al Khaimah in the north.

How to get to Hatta Rock Lake

You can reach the lakes by a number of routes:

Bus. Starting at 6:20 am, Emirates Express buses depart from any bus station in Dubai every 40 minutes. They go to Al Ghubaiba Station and the main bus station in Abu Dhabi. The entire route will cost approximately AED 25. To get to the lakes you need to get off the bus at the Hatta pools stop, after about 1.5 hours from the start of the trip.

Cab. You can take a cab at the airport exit. It takes about 105 km to Hatta village, which takes just over an hour by car. From Hatta Village to the lakes is about 6 km, which you can take a cab. The minimum cost for a cab ride is 25 AED.

Car Rental. Renting a car in Dubai is not difficult. It is inexpensive and does not require a lot of documents. Sometimes it happens that they don’t ask for an international driver’s license, but there are very few of such organizations. Sometimes they offer to rent a car with a driver, but in that case you should make sure that the driver knows the way to the necessary sights.

UAE. Hatta pools, OMAN

Good bye all, I just recently came to UAE on contract. I used to visit the emirates occasionally before that, but just for a few days to lay on the sand or to run through the malls. I have been here about a month but I have already changed my opinion about the country… I thought it was desert before… but now I have visited the emirates and various interesting places and have seen wild mountains, rivers, lush greenery, the desert at night… I can live here for a year or so without getting bored… Last weekend, I drove to Hatta pools. Unfortunately, this is OMAN, and you can only go through with a residency visa, so for most tourists, the road is closed. The last two pictures show north of Oman…to go there is the worst…you need to cross the border into Yemen and Oman, this takes at least an hour or two…put a departure stamp in your passport, pay car insurance, get your paperwork done in total for about 200 AED…I don’t know where they are coming from… For me – it is worth going there because of the wildlife and views of the sea. There is no diving and only a fortress among museums. When you come to the UAE, take a day out of your trip…will not regret it.

Hatta Rock Lake Sightseeing

Beautiful scenery. Hatta is an amazing place. The black rocks, which in the past were covered by sea water, have caught the attention of scientists. There is no other such formation in the world. The colored mountains, composed of different types of soil, look especially spectacular in the evening. Numerous wadis and lakes with clear birch water will not leave anyone indifferent. All this beauty overshadows only scattered tourists and locals trash.

Extreme sports. Especially popular in recent years has become a trip to wadis on off-road vehicles. This is a dangerous pastime, as the wadi soil is unstable. Not exclude the emergence of the descent of mud flows and mudflows, which can destroy everything in their path.

Mountain biking. A mountain bike ride offers the opportunity to see winding mountain ranges, bodies of water, and waterfalls. The Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Center has created several trails for beginners and advanced bikers. The trails can be ridden on their own, as there are clear signposts throughout.

Ancient Village. There are about 30 buildings that are several centuries old. Among them are two stone towers, the Fort, an ancient mosque and several museums. The village keeps ancient documents about the way of life of the Arabs in the past.

Hike in kayaks on the lakes. A kiosk on the reservoir offers guests and locals to rent kayaks or kayaks and take a trip on the cool turquoise lakes. This way you can explore the curved corridors with breaking waterfalls and the clearest water, and see the inhabitants of these places up close: fish and birds.

Re: UAE. Hatta pools, OMAN

You can google map where are the Hatta Pools? I read the reports, but do not get it, and there was a report that they let you in with a regular Emirati tourist visa to those places

Description of place

Hatta Rock – a small mountain lake located in the Hajar Mountains, almost on the border between the United Arab Emirates and Oman. This picturesque place is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Getting to the Hatta Rock Lakes is problematic – the road to them is very bad, and you have to jolt on the bumps. But the lakes themselves do not disappoint. Their water is clean, cool and wonderfully refreshing after the tropical heat. Hatta Rock has many waterfalls, small ponds and narrow stone canyons, which is very pleasant to swim in. It’s all set against a backdrop of majestic mountains and beautiful scenery. Even though Hatta Rock’s beaches lack any service, the lakes are still a big hit. It’s the most popular picnic spot around Dubai – you can’t find nature like this anywhere else.

And on the way back you can visit the village-museum Hatta, which is more than two thousand years old. It was the village that gave the lakes their modern name, and this historical landmark also attracts many tourists to Hatta Rock.

Re: UAE. Hatta pools, OMAN

Where is the information that Hatta Pools is in Oman ? I went there once, but a long time ago, no borders crossed Hatta town itself is Emirati territory, there are dams and reservoirs

I take it “north of Oman” is Musandam? Or did you cross the Omani border after Hatta? There is no way with a tourist visa, and to cross the Omani enclave, or rather, the roundabout before Hatta does not need any visas, they only check the documents, and not all of them.

you go barra again…

Thanks for the info on pulses, not the fact that I will eventually get to Hatta, although the plans are there, if I get to Hatta, the reservoir will certainly look at, especially since the road to pulses as I understand it goes through it… in the village do not want, time will be short, especially before that I plan to see the fort in Fujairah. The road from the reservoir to the Pulsy is okay, can I drive a normal car?

You can drive a car, but be careful… The road is different, not across the reservoir… before you reach Heritage Village, you need to turn left… the road is very beautiful from Hatta to Fudjeira

Looked googlomap – there’s no road, the map is not detailed enough. It’s my report was mentioned here – City on Sand. Dubai and a day by car in the UAE. October 2011. really crossed the UAE border after Hatta with a regular tourist visa. The border is quite serious – barbed wire and a checkpoint in both directions as far as the eye can see. We just weren’t stopped at the checkpoint.

Yes, everything is correct, Ray passed after Hatta pools – it is on your map: Only the sign on the ground was Rai: So the location of the pools you have correctly indicated. HOWEVER, it’s a pity, there’s also some kind of waterfall 10 km after Rai, isn’t it? If I had known beforehand, I would have definitely gone there!

Rather, it’s there during the rains – there’s plenty of dry river beds, and it’s obvious that the flows are not weak – the road in the lowlands is filled with stones and gravel.
