Sheldon Chalet – Helicopter and northern lights included
The small Sheldon Chalet is known as the most remote hotel in the world. The only way to get here is by helicopter.
Mesmerizing mountains and glaciers, endless stars and the splendor of the northern lights. It’s all here in abundance.
Where is it
Sheldon Chalet is located on the Ruth Glacier in Denali National Park, Alaska, USA, at 1767 meters above sea level.
Geographic coordinates (62.969602, -150.753998)
An interesting fact is that just 16 kilometers to the northwest is Mount Denali, the highest mountain in North America (6,194 meters)
History of the hotel
In the 1960s, an enterprising pilot named Don Sheldon often risked his life taking climbers, hunters and other adventurers to the farthest reaches of Alaska in his plane. Along with his wife, Roberta, who was always by his side, Don perfected risky glacier landings. Don’s love of Alaska’s unexplored places inspired him to build a small home on Ruth Glacier.

So in 1966, the first cabin appeared here.
Don himself did not originally plan to create the hotel. It was done by his descendants. Work began in 2015. In 2018, his children (Robert and Kate Sheldon) turned the secluded cabin into a chic resort called Sheldon Chalet . The main challenge in creating the house was its difficult accessibility. It was difficult and expensive to deliver the materials.
What Sheldon Chalet offers and how much it costs
A stay at Sheldon Chalet will cost you a minimum of $35,000 for 3 days. This is the minimum length of stay.
The hotel can accommodate up to 10 people.
It would seem the amount is quite impressive. For such money can be more than once to visit the luxury islands, such as Laucala, Fiji or Bali. However, such an experience as in the Chateau Sheldon is still to be found. And do not forget the difficulties faced by the creators of the hotel. So the price is justified.
What is included in the price?
It must be said that Chalet Sheldon is all-inclusive, starting with a round-trip helicopter trip. Flights are usually from Talkeetna or Anchorage. A personal chef is also on hand to prepare gourmet meals. Excellent coffee, chilled sparkling wine and many dishes are also included.
The hotel has a total area of 185 m 2
In addition, the tour package includes guided hikes, a sauna and, of course, luxurious rooms with fur blankets.
Excursions, equipment and guided tours are included
But the most important thing included is the unreal views of Denali National Park. Just imagine, you are surrounded by 25,000 km 2 of pristine nature. The surrounding area is home to grizzly bears, caribou, moose, wolves and other wildlife.
And even that’s not all. Don’t forget the sky. Chalet Sheldon is one of the best places in the world to watch the stars and northern lights.
One of the attractions of Sheldon Chalet is the incredible northern lights.
Of course not many of us will be able to visit it, but whoever can, will remember Chalet Sheldon for a lifetime.
If you have an extra $35,000, you can book the hotel on its official website.
