Telaga Waja River

The river starts from Mount Agung and flows through the Karangasem region. Its channel is formed by a volcano lava flow. The waters of Telaga Waja are important to the region’s rice plantations and are revered as a shrine. Near the town of Semarapura, the river flows into the more full-flowing Tukad Yeh Unda.

The rafting begins from the village of Munkan and takes 16 km.

The Telaga Waja is considered the most challenging rafting course on the island, but even its grade is not higher than Grade 3-4.

  • There are many rapids on the route, some several meters high, waterfalls.
  • The river banks are rocky in some places and densely forested in others.
  • There are villages with rice paddies.

Travel time is 2.5 to 3 hours.

Rafting on Bali’s rivers is not difficult. A medium difficulty rating means that even children are allowed to float. An experienced instructor is present in the boat, ready to help, and has a channel of communication with the shore service. Boats are made of sturdy material that can withstand the strain.

Bakas River

The name of the river is derived from the village from which the rafting starts. It is known among the local people as Melangit. The source of the river is lost among the Kintamani Mountains, in the region of Lake Batur. Running through the southwestern part of Bali, the Melangit flows into the sea near the southern beaches of Pantai.

The Bakas is the cleanest of the other rivers. Flowing through the rugged jungle, it bypasses the heavily populated and tourist areas. In places with calm currents you can see the bottom and fish swimming in the water column.

The route starts from the village of Bakas and takes 8 km of the channel. Travel time is 1.5 hours.

The complexity of the trail varies throughout.

  • It can be in places with a calm current of class 2, but with the turn of the river can dramatically change character to class 4.
  • The river channel runs among jungle overhanging directly over the water and among sheer cliffs. The topography abounds with sharp turns, cascades, and rapids.
  • On the way there are a lot of huge boulders as tall as a man.

Transfers are available from all the resort areas of South Bali and Ubud. Delivery from more distant parts of the island negotiated individually. Accordingly will require an additional fee.

Ayung River
